Fighting for Survivors of Dog Bite Attacks

Caren Henry was out walking her own dog when, This dog came racing across this yard, a big dog." The dog knocked her down and started biting her face, seriously injuring her nose. As the attack was happening, Caren's husband, Laine, was driving by. He immediately sprang into action: Caren turned and looked at me and I seen her face was nothing but blood, so I bit the dog literally in the nose and he let go and I grabbed our dog and I grabbed her and I put them in our pick-up and took off, he told the local NBC affiliate . The county has no vicious dog ordinance, so the dog who attacked Caren does not face the threat of being put down. [Shutterstock]

Dog bites woman: photo line up fails to catch canine crim

The line up technique has been used by the council since it employed a former police forensics officer. Jackie the five-year-old Jack Russell cross was picked out from a photo board of canine suspects after a jogger was bitten. A 44-year-old woman reported being bitten while she jogged in Claremont in February. The Magistrates Court in Hobart heard that when she reported the attack to the local council, she was asked to identify the dog from a photo line-up of possible canine offenders. Glenorchy Council's animal management officer told the court the technique had been used since a former police forensic officer came to work at the council. The accused dog's owner, Murray Brian Richards, who is also a former police officer, gave evidence his dog could not have been the culprit because she was on heat at the time and locked in a garage. Magistrate Catherine Rheinberger said canine identification had to be treated with the same caution applied to human identification.
