Will the dog bite? Check the paws

Only 10 percent of humans are left-handed but the ratio was much more even for dogs. Around a third were classed as left-pawed and a third as right with the remainder being "ambilateral" or being able to use both equally. When owners detailed how the pets behaved with strangers, there was a clear split. The left-pawed dogs scored almost twice as high for aggression than the ambilateral ones and markedly higher than the right-pawed. None of the dogs in the project were particularly noted for their aggression, it was reported in the Journal of Veterinary Behaviour. Dr Schneider said: "There is research in the human world as well that positive and negative emotions can be located in the left and right hemispheres.

Dog bite investigated in KCK

Dog Bite — A woman was bit by a dog Monday afternoon in Kansas City, Kan. According to firefighters, a 24-year-old woman was bit by a small dog near 44th and Claudine before 3 p.m. It's not known how serious the woman's injuries are. No other information was immediately available. Filed in:

700,000 people fall victims to dog bites in Indian state of Bihar

Of them, maximum numbers of streets dogs have captured the streets of Patna, capital city of Bihar, getting attracted to leftovers normally thrown along the city roads by the citizens. Their population appeared to have increased in winter with the arrival of new puppies. Article continues below Very recently, the Patna municipal authorities had planned to launch sterilisation drive for streets dogs in a bid to cut down on their number and protect residents from being bitten. The municipal authorities even floated tenders for hiring an agency that would sterilise stray dogs but the initiate failed. Earlier, the municipal authorities came with an idea to serve poison-mixed sweets to the stray dogs so that they can die peacefully in sleep. The idea was the brainchild of former municipal commissioner KP Ramaiah who soon after taking over his office launched aggressive campaigns to remove strays like cattle, pigs and dogs. The official's contention was that freely roaming stray animals along the main streets spoil the impression of a city but his idea met with strong protests from animal lovers.

Dog bites boy on face in south Auckland

The boy was taken to Middlemore Hospital on Sunday evening in a serious condition after the attack in Takanini on Sunday evening, a St John Ambulance spokeswoman said. Police say the dog was believed to belong to a family member, but it has not yet been found. Auckland Council animal control officers are looking for the animal. The world in pictures
